Mentoring Programs

Bearcat Companions pairs students with LMC alumni, faculty and staff members for a year-long mentoring relationship.  Pairs are encouraged to meet weekly to talk through issues facing college students.  The mentor is both a role model and a friend who supports and encourages a student in his/her academic and personal growth.  Bearcat Companions participate together in social, cultural, community service projects, and many other activities.  An important part of the Bearcat Companions is to establish service as an integral part of student life and the college experience.

MISS BEARCAT is a mentoring program offered to female athletes; Mentors Inspiring Student Success By Encouraging And Refining Committed Athletes Together.  Its goal is to provide a positive outlet and role model for all student athletes as they begin their journey of life.  The program is made up of a group of women faculty and staff members at Lon Morris who want to encourage these young ladies to strive for excellence in their everyday lives.

Peer Mentors are experienced students selected for their ability to share basic college information and their experiences and insights about college life.  Peer Mentors function as models of student success; they share the strategies they have developed to help themselves overcome the pitfalls all new students face.  Peer mentoring is based on one-to-one contact between a mentor and a new student.  Peer Mentors are encouraged to share time-management strategies; places and times that they have found best for studying around campus; offer insights on residence hall life; and give support and advice to new students.
